The Goose Pit Art Shoppe
The Goose Pit Art Shoppe is located is the Historic Harvestor Building in Downtown Sioux Falls just a block from Falls Park. We currently have over 70 custom framed, original acrylic paintings and stories on display, created by the South Dakota Artist/Writer, Jamie "Goose" Voigt. The Art work consists of the "places and spaces" that the "Goose" has traveled throughout the years, only to find his way "Back Home" to South Dakota.
"Without a story - it's just a picture," is what the Goose believes, so with every custom framed original painting, you will recieve a complimentary, custom framed story or poem -which gives insight into the events or place that inspired the scene captured in the picture.
The frame keeps our artists "within the lines" and adds a custom touch to the package. Tropical scene frames are made out of Bamboo frames that themselves are truly an unique work of art as no two are exactly alike. A typical bamboo frame starts with the
search for quality fresh bamboo, a drying period, preservation of the product and then a four part staining process. The finished bamboo is then attached to a pine backing that completes the fram and adds rigidity to the frame.
South Dakota scenes are framed with pine wood weathered, stained and "roughed" up to resemble barn wood. Due to the recent destruction of many old barns and out buildings by scavengers claiming these landmarks for artisian crafts in order to profit from them. Our artist feels that by using this process in duplicated barnwood, he is doing his part to help save our history by discouraging the distruction of farmsteads and homesteads along with preserving the memory through painting the few reamining ones before they all disappear.
