Description:

Don "Nick" Clifford, born in Pierre, SD on July 5, 1921, grew up in Keystone, SD, home of Mount Rushmore. As a young man Nick "played baseball every day, rain or shine," he recalls. In between ball games Nick would watch and visit with the men working at nearby Mount Rushmore. In 1938, after Nick's continual pestering, Lincoln Borglum hired him, at age 17, primarily because Nick was a good baseball player. The Mount Rushmore Team went on to the State Tournament two years in a row. On the team Nick was a pitcher and outfielder, but on the mountain he held various jobs from helping build the historic Sculptor's Studio and slate walls to winchman and driller. Nick and his wife, Carolyn, spent six years sharing his experiences with visitors at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Their book, Mount Rushmore Q & A, answers all the questions visitors asked him about the mountain carving. It is at Mount Rushmore that Nick's memories become living history in the telling of his story. Now you too can have an "interview" with Nick by having him answer your questions about Mount Rushmore. Nick will sign and date your book, and include his signed Baseball Card. NO extra charge!! Free Shipping.
